The Sampoerna Tobacco Museum, also known as the House Of Sampoerna, is located in Surabaya City, East Java Province. This 1.5 hectares museum was once the first cigarette factory owned by the cigarette company named Sampoerna. Then, in 2003 this factory was converted into a museum where visitors can learn about typical Indonesian kinds of tobacco and clove. This art deco style museum which was built around 1862 is included in a preserved historical site in Surabaya.
The collection of tobacco and cloves as well as cigarette production equipment used by the Sampoerna company are the main attractions of this museum. The aroma of tobacco and cloves can be smelled when visitors enter the building of this museum. There is also a replica of a cigarette shop that was first used by the founder of the Sampoerna company to sell basic ingredients and tobacco. The collections related to tobacco exhibited in this museum range from various types of cigarettes, lighters, various cigarette production equipment used by the Sampoerna cigarette company in the early days to various research equipment for cigarette manufacture from the research and development department in the past.
